Vegesack is a district characterized by shipbuilding. At the beginning of the 17th century, one of the first artificial river ports in Germany was built here. Later, wealthy Bremen merchants and citizens came to the north for a "summer retreat" and had magnificent villas built on the high shore. During a walk along the museum port, the "Stadtgarten" (park) and the Weserstrasse, you will discover one of Bremen's most maritime districts and learn, among other things, why the donkey of the Bremen town musicians is said to have received his bread of mercy here of all places...
